NCSES Grants and Fellowships

NCSES Grant Opportunity

The National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) would like to enhance its efforts in advancing analytic and methodological research in support of its surveys and to engage in the education and training of researchers in the use of large-scale nationally representative data sets. NCSES welcomes efforts by the research community to use NCSES data for research on the science and technology enterprise, to develop improved survey methodologies for NCSES surveys, to create and improve indicators of science and technology (S&T) activities and resources, and to strengthen methodologies to analyze and disseminate S&T statistical data. To that end, NCSES invites proposals for individual or multi-investigator research projects, doctoral dissertation improvement awards, workshops, experimental research, survey research, and data collection and dissemination projects under its program for Research on the Science and Technology Enterprise: Statistics and Surveys.

NSF-Sponsored Research Opportunities in Statistics and Policy Analysis

American Educational Research Association (AERA)

The National Science Foundation, in cooperation with the Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) and its Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI), jointly fund a research and training program administered by the American Educational Research Association. This multi-faceted program is intended to enhance the capability of the U.S. research community to use large-scale, nationally-representative data sets, specifically those of the NSF and NCES, to conduct studies that are relevant to educational policy and practice, and to strengthen communications between the educational research community and government staff. The AERA Grants Program has the following components: a research grants program, a dissertation grants program, and a statistics institute. The range of programs available under the AERA Grants Program provide opportunities for beginning and senior researchers, including advanced graduate students. Minority researchers are strongly encouraged to apply.

Association for Institutional Research (AIR)

The NSF, in conjunction with the NCES, supports AIR's Improving Institutional Research in Postsecondary Educational Institutions program. The goals of the program are to provide opportunities to institutional research professionals for professional development, to foster the use of federal data bases by institutional researchers (including the national sample surveys) in postsecondary education decision-making, and to foster the use of the federal data bases to inform research on institutional research in postsecondary education. The program has two major components: research grants and annual summer institutes to study the national data bases.

The National Data Institute accepts applications from institutional research professionals, faculty and graduate students, staff from state and national associations, and post secondary education researchers from non-US institutions who wish gain an intensive introduction to datasets available from the NSF and the NCES and to research methodologies using these large national data sources.
