Science, Engineering and Science Education Positions

CATEGORY: SCIENTISTS, ENGINEERS, SCIENCE EDUCATORS AND MATHEMATICIANS

Features

  • Appointments are usually made under the NSF Act hiring authority.
  • Temporary and permanent personnel are appointed at the AD-1 to AD-5 salary range.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must have a bachelor's degree or higher in an appropriate field of science, mathematics or engineering.
  • A Ph.D., or equivalent experience, and successful research, research administration and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position are required for higher level positions.
  • A candidate must be a citizen or national of the United States or be a citizen of a country with mutual security alliances with the United States.

CATEGORY: CONSULTANTS AND EXPERTS

Features

  • Consultants are appointed to provide advice, views, opinions, alternatives or recommendations on issues, problems or questions presented.
  • Expert positions require the services of a specialist with skills superior to those of others in the same profession, occupation, or activity to perform the work.
  • Work is performed on a temporary and/or intermittent basis.
  • Appointments to non-scientific positions are made in the competitive service under Title 5 of the U.S.Code of Federal Regulations. Appointments to scientific positions are made in the excepted service under the NSF Act hiring authority.
  • Pay is on a daily rate and is set commensurate with the level and difficulty of the work to be performed. Pay may not exceed the maximum amount allowable for the appointing authority.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must meet qualification requirements.
  • Consultants must have a high degree of broad administrative, professional, or technical knowledge or experience in a particular field or program in order to provide useful views from personal experiences.
  • An expert is recognized as an authority in the field or as a practitioner of unusual competence and skill in a professional, scientific, technical or other activity.
  • For competitive service positions, a candidate must be a citizen or national of the United States. For excepted service positions, a candidate must be a United States citizen or national, or be a citizen of a country with mutual security alliances with the United States.
